Dr. Eric Chun was appointed Kootenai County EMS System Medical Director in 2002. His position with the EMS System is part-time. Dr. Chun is a full-time Emergency Room Physician at Kootenai Health (99% of all KCEMSS 911 patients are taken to Kootenai Health). The Emergency Department sees an average of 54,000 patients annually. In addition, Kootenai Health serves as the regional tertiary care center for critical trauma, cardiac, stroke, and other acutely ill patients.

He attended and graduated the University of Indiana Medical School and completed both his residency and fellowship in Emergency Medicine at Butterworth Hospital in Indiana. One of the most significant accomplishments during Dr. Chun’s tenure is KCEMSS’ move from a primarily Basic Life Support system to a primarily Advanced Life Support System. When he started in 2002 there were fewer than 10 paramedics system-wide. Now there are over 350 responders with 66 of them being paramedics. Additionally, he has been key in transitioning a large portion of the basic EMTs to the EMT-I and now Advanced EMT level.
Dr. Chun is actively involved in championing EMS on the local level and state level. He serves on several KCEMSS and Kootenai Health committees and is a member of the Idaho EMS Physicians Commission. He is a key part of the quality and training/education initiatives at KCEMSS. Recently Dr. Chun helped write and roll out the new High Performance CPR protocols for Kootenai County.
Dr. Chun, his wife and two sons live in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. In his free time he enjoys many of the recreational activities that his kids are involved in and spending time outside. Feel free to contact him at email@example.com.
